TESSALA 0-2 - a far from complete photoshop compatible plug-in created using Filtermeister [ http://www.filtermeister.com/ ]. This filter only works under Windows. Sorry MacFolks.

CONDITIONS...This version is Freeware, Eric Jones. Use it freely. You may not change the filter in any way. It should always be distributed with this text file. You may distribute Tessela in any way you wish, but may not profit from doing so. No help or advice is available.

INSTALLATION... Remove from zip file and place in the plug-in folder of your image processing application.

USE... The filter produces its patterns by selecting a triangular sample from existing images.

The three sliders in the 'Select Sample' section select the size and position of the sample which is used to create the pattern.

A tick in the 'See Sample' box under the small image window allows you to see where in the image the sample is taken from. If the size is small you probably won't be able to see it.

If you tick the 'One Tile' box a single tile will be rendered on your image. This only works on an image with an Alpha Channel [I think this usually means not the bottom layer, only those above it. I have done little testing in different programs. This function doesn't seem to work with Painter]. To save a single tile [suitable for web page backgrounds etc] I usually select the transparent area around the tile, reverse the selection, copy the tile to the clipboard and then paste it into a new image. Most image programs either allow you to paste straight into a new image or size a new image to the size of whatever is on the clipboard.

The 'Scramble' and 'Poach' sliders rearrange the internal structure of a tile. The 'Scramble' slider often produces interesting results. The 'Poach' slider rarely does.

The 'x Stripe' and 'y Stripe' boxes cause boxy patterns to be formed. Can produce interesting results in conjunction with the cascade sliders.

The 'Cascade' sliders produce morphing tiles. If only one of them is used [= non-zero] you get either a repeating horizontal or vertical strip of morphing tiles. If both are activated you can not choose a single tile, but instead get a two dimensional array of a morphing pattern. With small sized tiles this can also produce a sort of patterned zoom effect.

Ticking the 'Cascade Mode' box produces a cascading pattern that morphs more quickly and in which individual tiles are no longer symmetrical.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TIPS...
Don't trust the preview window - it's only accurate at 100%.

Selecting recognisable features from an image often produces an interesting result - a face, a flower, a bird etc.

Creating a patterned image and then selecting from that pattern usually creates a tile with greater symmetry and attractiveness.

This plug-in is far from the state I was hoping it would be in by the time I released it. Time pours through my hands like water. Despite it's many imperfections I hope you find it useful.
